Care Guide

Care Guide

Your ‘axel mano, pieces are handcrafted from the finest materials. With a little care, they'll only get better with age. Here's everything you need to keep them looking their best.

Straw Hats

Cleaning

  • Spot clean only using a barely damp cloth — never submerge in water.
  • For stubborn marks, use a clean toothbrush and water.

Reshaping & Blocking

  • If your straw hat loses its shape, lightly mist the inside of the crown with water and gently reshape by hand. Your straw hat can be ironed.

Packing for Travel

  • Fill the crown with soft clothing to help it hold its shape.
  • If travelling carry-on, place the hat brim-down in the overhead locker with nothing stacked on top.

Storage

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and brittleness.
  • Keep in a breathable hat box or on a hat stand — avoid plastic bags, which trap moisture.

Felt Hats

Cleaning

  • Brush with a soft brush
  • For light marks, use a clean, barely damp cloth and blot gently — do not rub.
  • For oil-based stains, a small amount of talcum powder left overnight can help absorb the mark before brushing away.

Reshaping & Blocking

  • Hold the hat over a kettle or clothes steamer (keeping a safe distance) and gently work the felt back into shape with your hands.
  • Allow to cool and dry completely on a hat stand before wearing or storing.

Packing for Travel

  • If packing in a suitcase, place the hat brim down and surround with soft clothing for protection.

Storage

  • Store on a hat stand or in a hat box in a cool, dry environment.
  • Keep away from humidity, which can cause mould, and direct sunlight, which fades colour.
  • Cedar blocks nearby can help deter moths and absorb moisture.

Beanies & Knits

Cleaning

  • Hand wash in cool water with a gentle wool-safe detergent. Never wring or twist.
  • Gently press out excess water by rolling in a clean towel.
  • Lay flat to dry on a clean surface — hanging will stretch the knit out of shape.
  • Machine washing is not recommended, even on a delicate cycle.

Bags

Cleaning

  • machine washable.
